We're ready for the scenery....'dong hu'

Early in the morning we went out for our 1st tour in Wuhan. The 1st place is ‘Dong hu’ ( The east lake) they have wonderful scenery and this lake is one of the largest lake in China. They have a lot of memorial portrait, for example memorial portrait for ‘Qu yuan’ (the ancestor who related to dumpling & dragon boat festival).

Next we continue our journey to Wuhan Museum. They content a lot of artifacts that proven China early history. They have artifacts of Chu Dynasty which show in olden days how people survive and how they own a dynasty. While touring the museum, the tour guide mentioned why most of the king dead much earlier then their people. The reason is because the king in olden days used utensils made by some kind of resources which contain poisonous material. By using it in long run the materials will accumulated in the bodies and cause them have shorter life compare to the poor who can afford to use high end product like the king do. So, these information brighten me with the question why king die in young age.

Beside, we also have a chance to see some artifacts that related with tomb of ‘Cheng Hou Yi’. Its really unbelievable! Imagine how the people build their own tomb like a kingdom, so that they believe when they died they can still have luxury life. In the tomb they have a lot of coffin, not only coffin foe the king but also for the servants and army. Pictures speak louder than words, so enjoy our photo session….

Then we have our lunch at the street market we tried a lot of different food again. It’s a good experience to taste deer meat and some other pastry which we can’t find in Singapore. After lunch, we went a place called ‘yellow crane tower’ its one of the famous tourists spot in China. Its famous because of one of the famous poet “li bai” had went there and try to write down his poem when he saw such a pretty scene, but on the spot he saw someone has written something on the wall in the pavilion. After seeing that he decided not to write anything because he found the poem on the wall is beautiful enough. Then, he intends not to spoil the beauty. Thus, the pavilion is named an “ Ge Bi Ting”.

In every different dynasty they will build a new yellow crane tower because it’s famous and during changing in dynasty there will be war, so the original yellow crane tower is destroyed and been burn down. So the king of new dynasty will build a new one so they can win the heart of their people and improve the relationship. Different dynasty have their own design of crane tower, for example dynasty ‘Qing’, ‘song’, ‘yuan’, ‘ming’, ‘tang’ and lastly the current want.

After visiting all these interesting places, we end our trip and return to our dorm. Later we have group dinner again in the back alley, and we tried their porridge and dessert. It’s a good try! I’ll go there often before going back Singapore. Last but not least….Night!

Today we have afternoon lesson with Mr.Chong. After brunch we walk to our classroom which is in international school building room 506. Today’s weather is much warmer and the sun is hanging high, so its sunny day!!!

We learn Environment technology which is the module we need to complete during the trip in Wuhan, so that we can have fewer modules next semester. Mr.Chong enlightens me with a lot of current environment problem that can causes serious diseases. I can’t even imagine a baby was born with hindered hands n legs because her mother intake poisonous medicine while early pregnancy. Besides, there are also pictures with frogs that have extra limbs which affected by pollutants.

After these few days stay in Wuhan, we make friends with a lot of local students. They are so kind and generous, they willing to spend their resting time with us and communicate with us. This kind of attitude is really reminding us to appreciate them more. One thing that doesn’t satisfy me was the school toilet!!! It’s dirty and doesn’t supply any toilet paper. When a girl is having their monthly difficulty and we need toilet papers to ensure cleanliness, so it really upset me. I’ll try to bring tissue out every time, and this is the thing I need to accept with open mind because I’m not in Singapore. I must look forward to the positive thing. Haha :D

We have dinner together with Mr. Chong. I’ve try different kind of food, like tou pi, pao fan(claypot rice), rou si pao ( chicken claypot noodle), gui hua hu, tian jing bao and guo tie…
After dinner, we went back dorm and have a little party in our room. We share our guo tie n make some fun before saying SAYONARA…

Road side clinic....Its free!!!

Xiao Ling Lao si....IS module...

Haha...i oso wana try let them clean my shoes.

We woke up 8am In the morning, after having breakfast we rush for 9am class at Room West 5-4, which we need to walk quite a distance to reach there. Unfortunately, the lesson has been postpone to 1pm in the afternoon. Then we have a walk around the school to the usual shopping mall (Jian Er Mall). We have our lunch (McDonald) in a group of 17.

After that, we walk back to the dormitory and put our groceries, and we go for the IS module 4hrs lesson. Wow, its amazing! I’ve roughly learn through china’s 5000 years history. The Chinese lecturer who named Xiao Ling has taught us about the geography of Hubei. Hubei is named as ‘Hu Bei’ because of it’s located at the North part of Dong Ting Hu. Hubei is 185,900 square kilometers large, and Wuhan its 4 times larger than Singapore.
The population in Hubei is 60.161 million (2006). They have proximately 50nationalities in China, but most of the nationalities are Han, Hui, Mongolian etc. Firstly, we learn few famous ancestors which related to Hubei. “Yandi” who was a famous ancestor in the history 4000 years ago. He is also being called ‘Shengnong’ (God of Farming) because he started cultivate crops (farming) and he establish market for trading. Then, follow by ‘Four Beauties’ who was said that they are the prettiest women in their particular dynasty.
Xi Shi - The first of the four beauties. (Her beauty is said to ‘sink fish’ when she passed by.)
Wang Zhao Jun - Living during the Han Dynasty, she volunteered and sacrificing herself to marry the Xiongnu chief for the peace of the land. (She is said to have a beauty which make the birds falls when she is around.)
Diao Chan - Believed now to simply be a character written in a story called Romance of the Three Kingdoms during the Ming dynasty. She stepped up and used her beauty to become a concubine to Dong Zhuo (a tyrant warlord of Han dynasty) and a wife to his best warrior, Lu Bu. Through manipulating jealousy between the two, she convinces Lu Bu to kill Dong Zhuo and the warrior is killed for his betrayal. (She can let the moon shy away with her beauty.)
Yang Gui Fei - As wife to the son of the emperor in the Tang Dynasty, she came in contact with Emperor Xuanzong. The Emperor fell in love with Yang but could not technically show affection for his daughter-in-law. So instead, he declared she becomes a nun and through his right as Emperor, he brought her into his court and eventually made her his top concubine. Unfortunately, there was unrest in the country and while the Emperor spent his time thinking about Yang Guifei, his empire was falling apart. Yang was blamed for his downfall and the Emperor's men and advisors demanded she be killed or they would no longer protect him. He gave into the demands and Yang Guifei sacrificed her life so that the Emperor and the empire might continue. (She shame away the flowers with her natural beauty.)
There are a lot more, like Mulan, Dong yong & seventh fairy maiden, Double seventh festival etc. Then, Mrs Xiao Ling show us some place of interest like Han Kou, its famous for nice food and its heaven for shopping.

After lesson, we take a taxi to the nearest town for dinner. It only take us about 20 minutes to reach there, there are a lot of nice foods and places for fun. We pay for a card and start to choose what to try. We take Tang Bao (Bao with soup), Re Gan Mian (hot dry noodle), Steam Egg, Tou Si( keow teow), Zha Jiang Mian…

After dinner we went arcade which is located at the top level of the shopping mall. We enjoy like little kids, because it’s cheap and we try to play as much as we can. We win few hundred tickets and we get to change an adorable pencil for Jin Quan’s early birthday present. 1hour later, we gather and go back to the dormitory. Outside of the dorm we have a photo taking session. All of us crowd in front of the school and have a group photo with all the local students and thanks them to bring us out. Then we say Good nite, and get back to rest!
