My sushi lunch...

Coming to the end of the 4th week in Wuhan, the weather is so uncooperative because it rains the whole day and made my day wet and cold. Weekends usually are a touring day, but we only did some shopping for today and yet I get nothing.

We actually went Han Kou which heard it’s a good place for shopping; initially I agree it is until I saw the prices for the clothes and accessories, the feeling of shop gone immediately. Today I finally tried Japanese food in China, this was the 1st time I saw locals selling sushi, and I was fed with sushi for today’s lunch.

Today’s plans were unsuccessful because of the wet weather and we miss the opportunity to enjoy the local food in Han Kou. There were no roadside stalls selling foods in raining day. After the Han Kou tour, we went back school and rot inside our room with cup noodles.

As usual we went back alley to have our dinner…

The Glass rod before turning into fiber glass.

Sample of Fiber Glass.

Today was the industrial visit to Yangtze Optical Fiber Factory. We depart from school at 9.30am and we take half an hour ride to reach the factory, this Yangtze Optical Fiber Factory is one of the largest Optical Fiber manufacturers in China. When we reach the factory there was a person in charge came to welcome us in the main hall of the factory, and he made some simple introduction of his company and told us some of their processing in their factory.

Today I learned a lot about optical fiber. It’s a
glass or plastic fiber that carries light along its length. The person in charge told us about the process of optical fiber briefly from raw material to the ready optical fiber. Initially it’s from a raw glass tube, they sterilized it and start to insert gases such as SiCl2, GeCl2, C2F6 and O2 into the tube and apply UV light to turn the gases into plasma so it can be coated on the inner surface of the tube. Then the glass tube undergoes the collapse process and turns a hollow tube into solid glass rod. Later the glass rod is transport to the pulling process to further improve the glass rod with 150mm diameters into 150micro metres. The rod is put into a furnace and heat up to 2200oC to soften the glass, when the glass started to melt and drip into the tube and form a tiny strand of fiber glass. The fiber is then coated with two types of color for the purpose of protection to the fiber. Then the ready fiber glass is sent for quality check to ensure their tension which can withstand 9newton weight. The visit took around 1 hour time, and then we conclude everything with a group photo at the main floor.

After the industrial visit, we stop at the Wuhan University to see Cherry Blossom. Most of the Cherry Blossom has scattered off, we were only able to take few beautiful scene of the flowers. Something which made me as a fool was I slip and fall because of I wanted to take a photo of Cherry Blossom. They said I’m the FOOL OF THE DAY!!! It was so embarrass until I wet my butt and dirty my jeans, luckily I wore black jeans and it’s not that bad. After Cherry Blossom, some of us went ‘Shopping Mall’ for karaoke session at ‘Happy Karaoke’, while the rest went shopping. We sang for 2 hours then we have dinner at the food court and meet up to go back dorm together with the rest.

The weather for the day is bad, it rains whole day and make the day cold again…

Presentation Day...

Today is the day to show our hard work for the pass few days. In the morning we have lesson as usual and after lunch Mr. Chong continue the tutorial he had stopped last lesson.

Today’s lesson was only a short 1 hour class, because Mr. Chong allowed us to have more time to prepare ourselves for this afternoon presentation. It can be consider a semi grand event because there were local students, lecturers and dean of certain departments came to attend this event.

The presentation started on time. When everyone has been sited, the presentation started from the 1st group of LSCT which is my group. I’m the unluckily one to be the 1st to speak, and I’m not satisfied with what I’ve present today. It’s a bad presentation to me, I found out the students are not interested in our presentation and they started to talk and make noise. This maybe my weaknesses on handling event, I would improve and do it better next time. Anyway this was my 1st time present in front of a large number of audiences; so I think I’ll get to try to do a better job in future.

At the end of the event, we planed to sing a song named ‘Singapore Town’ and we were trying to bring up the atmosphere and let the local students enjoys today’s event. It ended around 6 in the evening, then we were happy because it’s the end of the stress work.

Dinner we went back the restaurant again, tonight we were in a group of 11 people and we pay lesser for 7 dishes. After dinner we went back dorm and have a party in our room, we were just celebrating for the sack of fun. Lol..

Stress day!

This Wednesday a bit different from usual wants, I need to wake up early and go for lesson at 10.30pm.

Morning 1 hour tutorial we discuss about tutorial’s questions, then Mr. Chong gave us 1 hour lunch time break. I ate rice today; maybe we are quite late for lunch so I fail to get good food at the canteen, Li Ying and I ate only rice with few dishes which does fit our appetite. After lunch we get back to class and continue lecture.

Mr. Chong upset us by reminding us about tomorrow’s presentation and our common test date has confirmed. It’s on next Wednesday, and I have only less than 1 week to study. Why I can’t just finish all the work and clam myself down for study??? I’m still in holiday and honeymoon mood, how can I take test in such a laziness conditions?

Dinner we have only 5 of us (Ian, Ying, Vel & Quan) including Mr. Chong went to the restaurant we went on Monday. Everyone was busying with their power point slides and no one bother to have their dinner with us; how pathetic are we! After dinner we walk back to dorm and rest. My day end with stress on tomorrow’s presentation!!!

The 22nd day in Wuhan!

As usual our lesson started at 1pm. Today we are not late but earlier than Mr .Chong, and he was shock about our presence early in 5 minutes time. Isn’t it a good thing Mr. Chong?
Don’t you wish your students came early for your lesson? =.=’ we haven have our lunch and we have it in the class while enjoying Mr. Chong’s pop songs.

Lesson held for 2 hours and the most interesting part of today’s lesson started. He played “Red Cliff” and all of us enjoy it a lot. Mr. Chong loves china’s history and legends so he bought these DVD and wanted to show us in class.

After lesson, we invited him to join us for dinner; we went ‘Shopping Mall’ by bus. We have our 1st experience of China’s KFC, and my comment was Singapore & Malaysia’s taste better. I’m wondering if the locals would go Singapore one day, would they love our fast food more than theirs. After dinner, we went shopping and we bought something secret. SHH!!!(The answer will come out very soon.)

The weather become cooler and unfortunately I wore my fury jacket which doesn't help. We rush to the bus stop and catch the bus back to school. Then, we decided to have herbal jelly again before going back dorm. Tonight I’ll work on my blog again and have a nice shower and sweet dreams.

Our 4th week in Wuhan!

Today I woke up late and I just have cup noodle for brunch. Then, we went for Mr.Chong’s lesson for 4 hours. I love Mr. Chong lesson because its not boring and I can enjoy music and movie. He continued Madagascar II at his last one hour lesson.

Its just a boring and uneventful day, we went dinner at a restaurant near the school. It was my 1st time having dinner in a big private room and the room has its own attach toilet and a plasma TV. The table is big enough for us to squeeze 17 people in a table and we ordered 12 dishes. This was like a family enjoys their reunion dinner; we enjoy and have fun tonight.

The dinner is cheap! We can’t get any cheaper meal with so many dishes for such a big amount of people in Singapore. It only cost us RMB 352. We pay RMB 22 each.
After dinner I get back dorm and work for blog again…

1st stop ~ Tai Zi Po~

After 6hours we finally reach Wudang...
Our 1st lunch in Wudang.

Early in the morning we meet at the main gate and get into the bus and begin our trip to Wudang Mountain. The bus departs from WUST at 7.30am, we take a 6 hours ride to reach the town at the bottom of Wudang Mountain, and we have our lunch in one of the hotel. Something really shock us was the toilet again, China’s wash room will always amaze us. The guys’ mention their toilet is flood with water (including urine); OMG! And the “Chocolate cake” is there in the bowl but is not flushed. The surprise thing was there is no awful smell in the toilet! We cant imagine how they manage their ventilation system…

After lunch, our Wudang visit started.1st stop we went “Prince Slope” – Tai Zi Po. We take the tour bus provided by the Wudang tourism; the route to our destination is full of turns and is a slow kind roller coaster. We need to have a 20 minutes ride to reach there. The building there is build with red walls and green roof; this is considered the specialty of Wudang. Red means ‘fire’ and green means ‘water’; while wudang is also named as ‘Tai He’ Mt. which shows their mean as wanted to harmonize fire & water. On our way up to ‘Tai Zhi Po’ I saw a lot of locals tried to convince us to buy red ribbons, initially I cant think of what does the ribbon used for until I saw trees full with ribbon and they have stones tied at the both ends. Now only I understand the ribbon is for making wishes, throw your ribbon as high as you can so that your wishes may come true, this is what most of the locals believe in. At ‘Tai Zi Po’ we so lucky that we can see the Tai Ci master show us how Wudang Tai Ci, this was my 1st time see martial arts with my own eye but not in the action movie. Tai Ci is created by Master ‘Zhang San Feng’ and Tai Ci is titled to be Soft to stop the Hard wants.

After ‘Tai Zi Po’ we headed to “Purple Temple” – Zi Qiao Gong, we take another 20 minutes to reach our next destination. Its one out of 72 temples in Wudang Mountain, this was the place where the God – Xuan Wu is placed. The people will go there for praying on 1st and 15th of every lunar month. When we were there it’s crowded with prayers. I saw a group of learner practicing their Kung Fu at the floor in front of the temple; they’ve made me think of posting some martial arts steps… When I started to post and took pictures, I realize everyone in EE group is pirated my idea!

Next stop we went ‘Nan Yan’, this was the last stop and the most tedious stop for the day. We climb all the way up to the top but Liying, Shanmei and I refuse to go in to the temple because we already exhausted after hiking such a long route. After trying this tedious climbing I doubt the next day hiking plan may not be successful. After ‘Nan Yan’ we take the last bus down the mountain and went back to the same hotel as this afternoon for dinner. Finish dinner we were brought to a hotel which considered as the best in the town – Wudang Hotel. It didn’t disappoint me because they have nice bed & nice bathroom with heater in a nice room. I wish I can stay longer in the room and unfortunately we can only enjoy the luxury for just few hours.

After everyone had settled down in their own rooms, we have a small conference in Ian’s room; it’s about tomorrow hiking plans. Initially, we were asking to take cable car to the top of the mountain instead of hiking. In the split seconds everyone of us are in the bad mood because we were here to hike and not to take cable car, so we discuss among 17 of us and try to solve the problems. At last our decision was continue hiking and we’re glad that Mr. Chong allowed and support us.

Next morning we woke up at 6am and we check out at 6.30.Then, we went for breakfast in the same hotel again; this was the breakfast that I ate a lot during my trip in China. I want to confirm I’m fully energize before the tedious hiking, the breakfast end in short while because all of us can’t wait to experience the hiking on Wudang Mountain.

Luckily we stock up enough isotonic drink so that I can’t feel any cramp while I’m on my way up to the mountain. We start our hiking at Nan Yan and it’s already half of the whole mountain, we still need to continue the 4km hike to reach the top of ‘Golden Summit’. We started at 9am, when we were on our way hiking there was one of our team mates – Xin Hui feel unwell because of the air is getting thinner and thinner and its really a tedious task for us who not used to do sports. We spent quite a lot of time to rest during the hike; I just keep on drinking isotonic drink and feed myself with chocolate so that I got enough carbohydrate to produce more energy. We took two and a half hour to reach the ‘Golden Summit’. Every one of us feels so happy because we did it on time and even faster than the people who were taking cable car. We can’t stop ourselves from taking photos and more photos because the scenery is just like heaven, the surrounding was blurring and just like we were surrounding by clouds. The only toilet on top of the mountain amaze me again, the cubicles is all filled with “cakes” and I don’t know how all these locals can stand the awful smell and just used the toilet so naturally. We were in emergency so I can’t even think twice, just hold my breath and do my business as fast as I could before I knock out in the toilet.

We spend one and half hours on top of the mountains and we started to queue for the cable car to get down from the mountain because we were not allowed to walk down in the concern of limiting time. I share a cabin with Jin Quan and we have an interesting K session in the cabin. Every cabin which pass through us shock of our loud singing, and I can even wish the cabin to stop so that I can sing non-stop in the high mountain with enclose compartment.

After we get down from the top, it was time for lunch and we have our lunch in a small restaurant in the mountain. Then, we take the 40 minutes ride back down to the usual car park to take our bus back to Wuhan. The journey back took another 6 hours and we were tired like died body, so we slept all the way until we reach WUST. Our dinner we just pack few burgers and eat it in the dorm, and I just exhausted so I slept early that night!!!
